Aqua-Terrarium

Tank size:

For a group of three (1.2 ) you should have a well-structured aqua-terrarium starting at 110 l    (80x35x40cm). When crabs are kept in groups, there ought to be more females than males. I have an aqua-terrarium (121x46x64cm) for one pair ( 1.1 ) with a land part with wood and rocks, plants in pots, so that you can replace them when they get trampled or eaten. In the water I have gravel, rocks and some plants, they love lots of hideouts. The aqua-terrarium should be properly enclosed, they wil find every gap to escape. They are extremely good climbers.

Water:

Sesarmops intermedium can be kept in freshwater, brackish water, salt water. They are found several kilometers inland , along rivers and in the mangrove forests, where the water is brackish. Propagation is only possible in brackish water or salt water. The females carry three to four weeks, an egg package with thousands of eggs which they then release into the water. Propagating in aquariums so far has rarely succeeded. The larva go through several stages, before they go ashore as young crabs.

Food

These crabs feed on algae and other organic material. In captivity you should give  them all kinds of food, cooked rice and potatoes, peas, apple, bananas,  pears, sprouts, peppers. zucchini. Food tablets (for alge-eating fish). Leaves of all european deciduous tree species.
Sardine, tuna, herring etc. Fresh or canned in its own juice, (not in oil).
Mosquito larve, mussel meat , earthworms cut into small parts . Also , a cuttlebone or crushed eggshells for calcium balance. There are also many types of dry food, that you can  get in a good pet shop, in the form of tablets and sticks.
