Lepidodactylus Lepidodactylus commonly known as the Scaly-toed geckos, and Mourning gecko, this species is parthenogenic, wich means the female is capable of reproducing without copulating with a male. This small gecko 10cm in total lenght, feeds on small insects and flower nectar, it also likes banana mash and honey. In captivity you can add all the suppliments (vitamins and minerals) into the puree. Lepidodactylus lugubris has a well-developed voice and makes a chirping sound wich is repeated in quick succesion up to ten times. Light: Uv light is not absoluteley necessary, but you need good lights for the plants. Live plants are benrfificial to to the habitat. Humidity: Moderate, 50 to 70%. Dayly misting is beneficial. Habitat: A 10-gallon tank can be used for 2 or 3 but a larger tank is always better. Hiding places must be provided to help them feel secure. Plants, rocks and branches should be added. Feeding: Small crickets, mealworms and fruit flies are a good staple diet, but you should give them a variety of other insects too. Also provide a small dish of calcium. Once a week give them mashed up fruit mixed with supplement (vitamin D3 + minerals). Clean water should be available at all times, they will lick up the droplets when you are misting the tank. Breeding: Males are not needed, the females will lay fertile eggs when the conditions are right. They lay 2 eggs per clutch, every 14 to 70 days, sticking them to the glass or other objects, the eggs can not be detached without breaking them and must be left in place to hatch. When kept at a temperature 75 to 80% the hatching takes about 2 months, sexual maturity is reached at 8 to 10 months. Males are an absolute rarity, those that do exist are mostly sterile, 99,8 of the Lepidodactylus lugubri are females. |

Gecko Geckos are lizards belonging to the family Gekkoniadae, found in warm climates throughout the world. They range from 1.6 cm to 60 cm. Geckos are unique among lizards in their vocalizations, making chirping sounds in social interactions with other geckos. Gekkonidae is the largest family of lizards, with over 2000 different species worldwide and many others likely yet to be discovered. The name stems from the Indonesian-Javanese word Tokek, inspired by the sound these animals make. All geckos, excluding the Eublepharinae subfamily, have no eyelids and instead have a transparent memgrane which they lick to clean. Many species will, in defense , expel a foul-smelling material and feces onto their aggressors. there are also many species that will drop their tails in defense, a process called autotomy. Many speces are well known for their specialized toe pads that enable them to climb smooth and vertical surfaces, and even cross indoor ceilings with ease. These antics are well-known to the people who live in warm regions of the world, wehre several species of geckos make their home inside human habitations. These species for example the hause gecko become part of the indoor menagerie and are often welcome guests, as they feed on insects, including mosquitoes. Unlike most lizards, geckos are usually nocturnal and are great climbers. The largest species, the Kawekawaweau, is only known from a singel, stuffed specimen found in the basement of a museum in Marseille, France, and one documented sighting in the wild in 1870. This gecko was 60 cm (24 in) long and it was endemic to New Zealand, where it lived in native forests. It was probably wiped out along with much of the native fauna of these islands in the late 19th century, when new invasive species such as rats and stoats were introduced to the country during europian colonization. The smallest gecko, the Jaragua Sphaero, is a mere 1.6 cm long and was discovered in 2001 on a small island off the coast of the Dominican Republic. This information found in Wikipedia.
